Integrating a Multitude of Talents and Strengths

Cancer is the most complex medical challenge facing our society. It is not a single disease. In fact, it is a biological process that has many manifestations and impacts. A multitude of factors drive uncontrolled cell growth. The many forms of cancer attack the body in different ways at different places. Since there are many kinds of cancer and a variety of causes, the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center (UCCRC) is committed to developing comprehensive solutions covering the full range of cancer types and serving the needs of each patient.

The challenges are enormous. Consequently, the UCCRC has developed a multi-faceted strategy designed to attack malignancy from a variety of angles, employing a multitude of tactics, and leveraging a wealth of expertise and resources. It is a cooperative endeavor that integrates the innovative efforts of more than 200 talented and knowledgeable scientists and clinicians.

To foster this collaboration, we have organized the UCCRC team into six integrated scientific programs. Each program focuses on promising research paths. At the same time, the Center emphasizes cross-disciplinary teams that cross program areas. Many of our research projects take advantage of resources throughout the University, the University of Chicago Hospitals, the community and scientific and medical communities.
